The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India's highest and most acclaimed award in Indian cinema conferred upon a veteran luminary in appreciation of his/her lifetime cinematic achievement. Every year, a committee comprising luminaries from the Indian film industry selects the Awardee who is honored at the National Film Awards ceremony by the Directorate of Film Festivals, an organisation under the aegis of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. A number of celebrated and famous film personalities have been felicitated with this prestigious Award over the years.
